Description.

This two-session mini-residency is explicitly designed to help dental practitioners become more proficient in evaluation, differential diagnosis, treatment, and management and, in some cases, understand when to refer patients to an orofacial pain specialist.

Treating temporomandibular disorders (TMD) is a complex problem in dentistry. To manage TMD issues effectively, the clinician must be able to recognize these disorders from other orofacial pain conditions so that appropriate treatment can be determined.

We will review the various commonly seen TMDs and discuss treatments based on sound scientific principles. Clinicians will be challenged with clinical cases to diagnose and understand how to take a detailed history to select the correct therapy for each patient.

This program will benefit all practitioners interested in understanding the complexity of managing temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain.
